Perla Kaliman holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina), specializing in the relationships between protein structure and function. She was a postdoctoral fellow at the Faculty of Medicine-University of Nice (France), at the Faculty of Biology-University of Barcelona (Spain) and visiting fellow at the School of Medicine-University of California San Diego, where her works focused on cell signaling, differentiation and metabolism.

Currently, Perla is an associate professor at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), an honorary fellow at the Center for Healthy Minds, and an invited professor at the universities of Barcelona, Strasbourg, and Lyon. Her current research includes the impact of meditation practices on cell ageing as part of a European research consortium (Meditaging) and the impact of meditation combined with other therapeutic approaches in adolescents with a history of multiple adverse childhood experiences in collaboration with the Center for Healthy Minds and the NGO “Innocence in Danger Colombia”. She has published numerous scientific articles, book chapters and reviews. She co-edited the book Epigenetics of Lifestyle (Bentham eBooks). She is the author of a neuroscience-cooking book on food for brain health with the cook Miguel Aguilar (Cocina para tu Mente, Ed. Blume, Barcelona) and the book "La ciencia de la meditación: de la mente a los genes" (Kairos, Barcelona)."
