Center Founder and Director Richard J. Davidson and Center Faculty John Dunne will speak at the upcoming Varela International Symposium: An Exploration of Uncertainty and Emergence in Self and Society. Other speakers at this virtual symposium include Roshi Joan Halifax, Elena Antonova, Adam Frank, Hanne De Jaegher, Sensei Al Genkai Kaszniak, Evan Thompson and Amy Cohen Varela. The symposium will explore questions like: How do the complex systems of our brain and our biology develop and give rise to our sense of self? How does our understanding of complex dynamic systems in the physical world shed light on how new personal and social phenomena emerge? How does the social world that emerges from interactions within complex societies influence our identities, societal structures, intergroup conflicts, and social and environmental justice? And much more.
