We are recruiting participants for the “Emotions on the Go” smartphone study. The goal of this 2-week study is to understand how people feel as they go about their daily lives.
Why join this study?
Do you feel distress–anxiety, loneliness, sadness, unfulfilled–during the day? What if when you picked up your smartphone, emotional support could be available right then and there?
By participating in this study, you can impact the science and help us learn about feelings experienced throughout the day, so we can better understand when and how to offer emotional support in the moment.
In this study, individuals will use their smartphone to describe how they are feeling and what is going on in their daily life.
What You’ll Do in This Study
If you choose to take part in the study, you will download a mobile app that will prompt you several times a day to describe how you’re feeling right then. You will do this by recording a short 1-minute video and answering a few questions. The app will continue to prompt you to record videos and respond to questions every day for two weeks. You will also fill out some surveys at the beginning, middle (after one week), and end of the study (after two weeks).
Study Length and Compensation
In total, the study takes 2-3 hours throughout a 2-week period. You can do the entire study on your smartphone and earn up to $150 for participating.
To take part, you must:
- Be 18-65 years old
- Be living in the U.S. and proficient in English
- Have access to a smartphone and the Internet
- For two weeks, be willing to use your phone to:
- Create short videos and answer brief questions about how you feel multiple times each day
- Let an app run in the background to passively collect GPS location data
If you choose to take part in the study, the research team will follow strict rules to protect your privacy and confidentiality.
