Dalal Abu Amneh, Ph.D., is a neuroscientist, singer, therapist, and activist whose work weaves together science, spirituality, and art to advance healing and human flourishing. At the University of Wisconsin–Madison's Center for Healthy Minds, she leverages her background in molecular and imaging neuroscience to explore the effects of music, collective singing, and contemplative practices on biological and psychological indicators of wellbeing.
At CHM, she leads MUSE – Music for Universal Social and Emotional Wellbeing. This initiative explores and utilizes music and spiritual practices for healing through scientific research, community involvement, and citizen science. One project, Out Beyond, features transformative concerts and workshops designed to turn this vision into real experiences—using music and spirituality as catalysts for resilience, unity, and renewal.
As a renowned and award-winning singer, she has performed for over twenty years, specializing in Arabic classical, Palestinian folk, world music, and Sufi traditions while developing her own hybrid musical style. Dalal also founded Sitti, an intergenerational, cross-cultural initiative that preserves cultural memory by featuring the voices of grandmothers in song, celebrating feminine wisdom and resilience.
Her current research also explores how the spiritual dimension can enrich psychology and neuroscience, offering a holistic perspective on healing and the human soul. By integrating scientific precision with artistic spirit, her work demonstrates how music and spirituality can serve as powerful tools for healing and collective wellbeing across diverse cultures.
