Student Flourishing Initiative
The Student Flourishing Initiative cultivates wellbeing among college students and is inspired by the Art and Science of Human Flourishing course (ASHF) at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The science-backed initiative has made CHM a leader in teaching student flourishing and supporting educators who want to incorporate wellbeing into their curricula.
4 Things to Know About the Student Flourishing Initiative
The Art and Science of Human Flourishing (ASHF) course
This University of Wisconsin–Madison semester-long course encourages students to think critically about a variety of interdisciplinary perspectives on what it means to flourish. The evidence-based course uses the CHM wellbeing framework of Awareness, Connection, Insight, and Purpose and integrates the Healthy Minds Program app.
Healthy Minds on Campus (HMoC)
This student-led organization at UW–Madison evolved from the ASHF course, focusing on peer-led wellbeing events and workshops based on the Center's wellbeing framework.
The Student Flourishing Ambassador program
A student leadership program stemming from the excitement and personal outcomes resulting from the ASHF course. Ambassadors are former students who participate in student panels, create promotional content, facilitate peer-led mindfulness practices, and partner with Healthy Minds on Campus to promote a culture of well-being across campus.
Student Flourishing - Essentials for Educators
An instructional in-person workshop was offered to educators in the past. Now, it's transformed into an online course available globally. For those who want to teach the ASHF course or integrate its elements into their own courses or teaching practices, there's the Wisconsin edX course, The Art and Science of Human Flourishing: Essentials for Educators. See course details and registration here.
