Do you know a teenager who is feeling sad, down or lonely?

Researchers at the Center for Healthy Minds at UW–Madison want to learn whether smartphone apps can reduce depressive symptoms and promote well-being in teenagers.

About the Study:

The research study takes about 10 hours over 5 months. Participants will attend one in-person visit at the Center for Healthy Minds. All other study activities will be completed remotely. For the first 8 weeks, participants will use a wellness app for about 5 minutes a day and complete surveys about their thoughts and feelings. Throughout the study, they will wear a wristband that collects information about their heart rate and sleep and use a smartphone app that passively monitors their movements. Participants will complete a final set of online surveys 5 months after starting the study.

Participants must:

  • Be 14 to 19 years old
  • Be experiencing symptoms of depression
  • Have no significant experience with meditation
  • If under 18 years old, have a parent or legal guardian consent to participation

Teenagers do not need their own phone to participate!

Compensation

Participants can receive up to $200 for their participation.
