YogAutism is a yoga series designed specifically for meeting the challenges of individuals on the autism spectrum. It is delivered in a one-on-one group format, where each participant works directly with a trained instructor. Several pairs work together at the same time, learning and practicing the series. Caregivers or parents are encouraged to participate or observe, so that they can help participants practice the series at home.
The purpose of this study is to examine the bodily changes associated with this yoga series. Researchers measure markers of stress response and arousal, to test the hypothesis that participants may feel more calm and at ease following the yoga practice, in addition to showing decreases in stress.
We hope that these data will provide the basis for novel behavioral interventions for autism that can be used by individuals of any age.
