
Norman B. Anderson is a member of the Center for Healthy Minds Equity Advisory Council, an external body of world class scholars and practitioners who are invited to provide advice to the Center's community (leadership, researchers and staff) on all facets of work through the lens of equity, inclusion and diversity.
He is Assistant Vice President for Research and Academic Affairs at Florida State University (FSU), where he also serves as Director of the FSU Faculty Leadership Development Program and as Professor of Social Work. Before joining FSU, Anderson served was Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the American Psychological Association (APA). Prior to APA, he was the founding Director of the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He also served as an associate professor at Duke University Medical School and as a professor at the Harvard School of Public Health.
His interests are in scientific/academic leadership development, and on racial/ethnic and economic health equity. Currently, he serves as a Senior Editor of the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Global Public Health, leading the section on health equity. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine of the National Academies of Science, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine of Florida. Anderson is a past president of the Society of Behavioral Medicine, and is a Fellow of SBM, APA, the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research, and the Association for Psychological Science.
